Nikon S9100 Battery Life

First published on: Monday, 7 March 2011

The following Nikon S9100 battery life numbers (how many photos can be taken before power from the Nikon EN-EL12 3.7V, 1050 mAh Lithium Ion battery pack runs out) is extracted from the Nikon S9100 Manual and the Nikon S9100 Specifications page.

The manual gives the following explanations on how battery life testing is conducted:

  1. Unless otherwise stated, all figures are for a camera with a fully-charged Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL12 operated at an ambient temperature of 25°C (77°F).

  2. Based on Camera and Imaging Products Association (CIPA) standards (see the section titled “Standard Procedure for Measuring Digital Still Camera Battery Consumption” for more information) for measuring the life of camera batteries. Measured at 23 (±2)°C (73 (±4)°F); zoom adjusted with each shot, flash fired with every other shot, image mode set to 4000×3000. Battery life may vary depending on shooting interval and length of time menus and images are displayed.

Approximate number of still pictures: 200 shots.

Approximate movie shooting duration / time / interval: 1 hour 20 minutes (HD 1080p).

Refer to page 195 of the S9100 Manual for Nikon’s advice on maximizing battery life and performance. One notable point is that the battery should be recharged and completely exhausted at least once every six months before being returned to storage.
