Canon T1i / 500D Samples

First published on: Monday, 29 June 2009

Last update (Oct 15, 2009): Download T1i / 500D / Kiss X3 RAW / CR2 sample files.

This page is a collection of photo samples taken with the Canon EOS Rebel T1i / 500D / Kiss X3 digital SLR camera, plus related image galleries, user pictures and other examples that I’ve come across in forums, online communities, blogs and related websites.

This should help in determining if the image quality of the T1i / 500D meets your expectations.

Bear in mind that the majority of these photos are re-sized, and may have gone through post-processing, retouching or other edits. I just thought that it would be interesting to see, at a glance, what Canon T1i / 500D DSLR owners and users are shooting with their camera.

Full-sized images, where available, will assist with judging the image quality.

Some Tamron 17-50mm snaps by Naim Choudhury

Naim was not only generous in sharing his first impressions of the new T1i, he also gladly shared some web-sized, examples of low-light / dusk / night photos taken with a Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD SP ZL Aspherical (IF) Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras mounted on the T1i / 500D, all taken at ISO values ranging from 800 to 1600.

According to Naim, high ISO noise reduction was left at its default “Standard” setting for these images.

Miscellaneous T1i photos by Rob Galbraith / Little Guy Media

Rob Galbraith posted up a full-resolution photo and some frame grabs from video clips in his article, “HD video capture, 15MP sensor in Canon EOS Rebel T1i“.

The photo on the left was taken in New York’s Grand Central Terminal with a Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II lens at 18mm, f/5. Click this link to open the full-sized image in a new browser window, or right-click and save to your hard drive.

The photo on the right is a frame grab from footage shot with the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM mounted on the T1i. Click this link to open the full-sized image in a new browser window, or right-click and save to your hard drive. I think the image is astonishingly sharp, detailed and crisp.

Finally, a set of frame grabs (copyright Vincent Laforet) from two different clips, one taken with a T1i and EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM, and the other with a 5D Mark II and EF 500mm f/4L IS USM lens, shows huge image output differences in terms of bokeh, subject isolation and background blur when pitting APS-C (or crop) sensor DSLR cameras such as the T1i, vs the full-frame 5D Mark 2, while maintaining approximately the same FOV (field of view).

Visit Rob Galbraith’s article to view a larger version of these images.

No mention was made of the f-stop used, so I’ll just assume that the super telephoto lenses were opened up to their largest aperture.
