Here’s a brief overview of additional items you might want to consider purchasing to enhance your Canon G12 ownership experience.
Lithium-ion Battery Pack NB-7L (with Terminal Cover): Get a second battery for your G12 as a backup. A second, fully-charged battery is the best way to ensure that your G12 continues to have a power source when the one inside the camera runs out of juice.
Canon LA-DC58K Conversion Lens Adapter: $31.29. You’ll need this adapter if you intend to use the Canon 1.4x TC-DC58D Tele Converter Lens ($119.99).
For storage, the G12 uses SD, SDHC or the latest SDXC cards.
Refer to Rob Galbraith’s SD / SDHC card write speed tests (done on a Nikon D90) to get an idea on the relative write and read speeds of different brands of cards. At the time of writing (Oct 29, 2009), the SanDisk Extreme III SDHC cards occupy the top two spots.
To ensure smooth recording of video and high resolution images, go for Class 6 or faster cards.
