Factory-refurbished Nikon cameras and lenses frequently represent good deals, because you’re buying products in almost mint condition for a greatly-discounted price.
Jul 31, 2009 update
There is one unit of Nikon D80 Digital SLR Camera Body Kit (Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.) available.
Units refurbished by Nikon U.S.A. for instance, would normally come with a 90-day warranty, but this varies on a case-by-case basis so be sure you check the terms and conditions beforehand.
Read through this discussion on DPReview.com on whether it’s a good idea to purchase a refurbished camera, a Nikon D80 in this instance.
A summary of the discussion follows:
- AHampton has been buying refurbished Nikon products for the past 4 year and never had any problems with the purchased camera bodies and lenses. His refurbished Nikon 18-200mm VR which he bought from Cameta had none of the issues reported by many owners of the new version of that lens. Some of the camera bodies were still being used and had never been serviced. All items were new-looking and sealed with the accessories. The lenses did not come in Nikon boxes but only plain brown ones, however, all papers and packing were included. He believes that refurbished products are checked thoroughly and any necessary corrections are made.
- HBrown bought a refurbished Nikon D80 from Cameta that looked and worked like new, and had only 13 shutter actuations. The big draw for that purchase was the price which was significantly lower.
- Larrytusaz got a Nikon D80 with 13,000 clicks on it from the previous owner which purchased it refurbished from Adorama. The camera worked fine.
