Adobe Lightroom 2.4 vs Nikon Capture NX 2

This post is a collection of random bits of information comparing Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.4 and Nikon Capture NX2.

Quality of NEF / RAW Conversion

Judging images visually, Nikon NX2 tends to give images with better detail.

In the screen capture below (click the photo to see the 1912 x 1080 version), the same NEF file from a Nikon D300 was opened without any further adjustments in both software.

The lens used for this image was the Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens. Comparing the level of detail in the tree trunk, the difference is so stark that you’re almost led to believe that the Lightroom version of the photo was shot with an inferior lens cursed with soft corners.
