Superb Major League Baseball Action Photos

Look no further if you want to enjoy great sports photography with the Canon 40D, because Bryan P (Flickr | Smugmug) has shared 11 baseball action photos in this forum post from a recent Mets vs Marlins MLB game:

Major league baseball photos, by Bryan P with Canon 40D, EF 200mm f/2.8L lens, and Canon 1.4X teleconverter

Lenses used were the Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM (which Bryan reviews to be sharp wide-open with super-fast AF even with a TC) and Canon Extender EF II (1.4x) teleconverter.

Bryan also reports that he got a higher keeper rate with the 40D compared to the 30D. 6.5 fps (frames per second) was a bonus and the AI Servo worked extremely well too. In another post, Bryan explains how he uses the AF-On functionality of the Canon 40D to ensure a high success rate in focus accuracy.

ISO 500 to 800, 1/2000 to 1/3200th second shutter speeds, CWA (center-weighted average) metering and Cloudy WB (white balance) were used for the shots.

Here's another tip from Bryan about how not to ensure that you'll be allowed entry into the stadium with your photographic equipment.
