On page 123 of the <a href="http://www.dpnotes.com/canon-5d-mark-ii-manual/">Canon 5D Mark II manual</a>, the shutter button is used to take still photos during movie shooting.

On the other hand, starting and starting of the movie capture is accomplished with the SET button.

Remember that the Phottix can only be used to operate the shutter remotely, not the SET button, so you can take still photos with the Phottix during movie capture, but not to start or stop movie capture.

Just wondering if the C8 can be used to somehow trigger a Canon 5D MK2 in video mode?

In my case the shutter would not fire. Opened the unit and found a wire was disconnected. Next I will try and solder it back. I have the C8 for my Canon EOS 40D and the wiring connection was as follows: P1 Green, Middle - Black, P2 - Red. My Red wire was out.

Mike, I'm sorry to hear of the problems you're having with the Cleon. It looks like something in the remote might be sticking.

Henry had the same problem and managed to have his email replied to by HKSupplies promising that they'll send him a new unit. Have a look at his comment at http://www.dpnotes.com/phottix-cleon-n8/ - I hope things work out fine for you.

Thanks, David.
I bought the C8 got Christmas eve. It worked great for a few days but I have had these problems as of Jan, 3, 2008:
I have a Canon 40D
I had the camera turned off before I inserted the C8 plug- no LCD function. LCD functions without the C8. I checked the batteries of both C8 units, read 3v and 12v as they should.
LCD will not display, no cleaning notice displayed- functions without the C8.
menu not available- functions without the C8.
playback not available- functions without the C8.
timer light stays on some times - functions ok without the C8.
live view not available- functions without the C8.
auto focus will not work with half button press- functions without the C8.

What can I do to make it work as it did yesterday?

@Mike - yes, all playback features (and other button presses and dial turns) continue to work while the Cleon is attached and in use.

@Ben - no it doesn't. Once you mount the Cleon on the hotshoe, you can't popup the internal flash or mount an external flash on it.

Having said that, it's quite easy to coil the receiver round the tripod head or just leave it dangling (as the unit is a real lightweight).

Triggering a remote flash with the use of a PC cord should work though (<a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/40d/discuss/72157603943657059/">see this discussion</a>), but I haven't tried it myself.

Good luck!

Does this thing work for remote shots using flash photography when the hotshoe is occupied?
