These are excellent examples of the kind of photos you can capture with the stock Canon XTi kit lens, the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.6-5.6 (non-IS), if you pay attention to the choice of subject matter and lighting.

The photographer shares camera settings and the setup for the shot here. Canon Digital Photo Professional (included for free with the camera), Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop CS3 were used for post-processing.
