The price of most digital cameras tend to trend downwards over time, and the same price drop should occur in the case of the Pentax X90 superzoom, digital bridge (SLR-like) camera.

The X90 was announced on Wednesday, 24 February 2010, and features a 26x optical zoom lens (26-676mm in 35mm equivalent terms) and full 720p (1280 x 720 pixels) HD movie capture at 30 fps. The sensor used is the same as that used in its predecessor, the Pentax X70 — a 12 MP (Megapixels) image-stabilized CCD with a 43 MP/cm² pixel density. Dimensions and weight are 111.0(W)×84.5(H)×110.0(D)mm / 4.4(W) × 3.3(H) × 4.3(D) inches (excluding the operation parts and protrusion), and approx. 428g / 15.1 oz. (“loaded and ready” with battery and memory card) respectively.

Pentax X90 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 26x Super-Telephoto Triple Shake Stabilized Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD: $299.95 ($36.62 price reduction since the last update).

Typical X90 Accessories
Pentax D-LI106 rechargeable lithium-ion battery (3.6V, 1250mAh). A battery is already included in the box, but consider buying a second, backup battery for your X90. This way, you can be sure your camera continues to have a power source during extended shooting sessions. Check Amazon and B&H for battery availability.

For storage, the X90 uses SD and SDHC cards.

Refer to Rob Galbraith’s SD / SDHC card write speed tests (done on a Nikon D90) to get an idea on the relative write and read speeds of different brands of cards. At the time of writing (Oct 29, 2009), the SanDisk Extreme III SDHC cards occupy the top two spots.

To ensure smooth recording of video and high resolution images, go for Class 6 or faster cards.

Good luck shopping for your Pentax X90!
