Olympus E-PL1

The English Language Olympus PEN E-PL1 12.3MP Live MOS Micro Four Thirds Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera user manual / operating instructions (Olympus calls it the “E-PL1 Digital Camera Instruction Manual”) is now online and available for download at olympusamerica.com (right-click and save the user guide to your hard drive).

If the download link didn’t work for you, go to the Product Support page for the E-PL1 and manually locate the file “E-PL1 Instruction Manual (English)”.

The guide is also available in Spanish and French.

Unlike with Nikon, Olympus allows you to freely print the E-PL1 owner’s handbook without building in any password protection into the PDF.

The file size of 124-page PEN E-PL1 Adobe Acrobat PDF document is 7.4 MB (Megabytes).

The guide discusses the features of the E-PL1 and how to use the camera.

It also describes the use of, and camera settings for several optional accessories. One example is found on Page 103: External flash shooting, where a table presents the GN (Guide Number) specs of, and functions available with various Olympus flash units such as FL-50R, FL-36R, FL-20, FS-RF11, TF-22 and the new FL-14.

The row labeled RC mode (RC stands for Remote Control) shows that the FL-50R and FL-36R flash units can be remotely and wirelessly triggered by light pulse signal streams from the internal pop-up flash on the E-P1. Page 103 has further details.
