Nikon P7000

The price of most digital cameras tend to trend downwards over time, and the same price drop should occur in the case of the Nikon P7000 premium / prosumer compact digital camera.

The Nikon Coolpix P7000 was announced on Wednesday, 8 September 2010, and features a 10.0 MP (Megapixels) 1/1.7-inch CCD sensor, a 720p HD movie mode capture @ 30 fps (frames per second) and a 7.1x optical zoom range of 28-200mm (in 35mm terms). Approximate weight (with battery and SD memory card) and dimensions (W x H x D) are 12.7 oz. (360.0g) and 4.5 x 3.1 x 1.8 in. / 114.2 x 77.0 x 44.8mm respectively.

I’m not planning for any scheduled updates, but do check back here from time to time for the latest and best prices on the Nikon P7000 and related accessories.

Battery options and accessories for the P7000
The P7000 is powered by a single Nikon EN-EL14 Rechargeable Li-Ion battery (7.4 V / 1030 mAh / 7.7 Wh), one of which is already supplied in the box. It’s a good idea to purchase a spare battery as a backup so that the camera doesn’t run out of power during extended shooting sessions.

For storage, the P7000 uses SD, SDHC or the latest SDXC cards.

Refer to Rob Galbraith’s SD / SDHC card write speed tests (done on a Nikon D90) to get an idea on the relative write and read speeds of different brands of cards. At the time of writing (Oct 29, 2009), the SanDisk Extreme III SDHC cards occupy the top two spots.

While waiting for your P7000 to arrive, download and read the Nikon P7000 Manual to familiarize yourself with the camera’s features and capabilities. Some general pointers in Photography Tips might be of additional help.

Good luck shopping for your P7000!
