The price of most digital cameras trend downwards over time, and the same price drop should occur in the case of the Nikon D90 digital SLR camera.
I’m not planning for any scheduled updates, but do check back here from time to time for the latest price on the D90, body only and kits.
The D90 is available as a body only, or as a kit (outfit) with the Nikon 18-105mm AF-S VR Nikkor lens.
Remember to check the price for the kit and compare that to the individual prices for the body only and lens. Most of the time, buying the kit saves you money, but it’s sometimes cheaper to buy the body and lens separately.

At the time of writing, it’s much cheaper to purchase the D90 plus 18-105mm kit zoom than to buy the body and lens separately.
Battery options and accessories for the D90
Nikon EN-EL3e Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery for D90: $29.99
Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack for the Nikon D90: $131.00. This vertical grip takes one or two EN-EL3e batteries, or six AA-size batteries.
For AA batteries, IMEDION or Sanyo Eneloop NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries are your best bet, as they retain the charge for a very long period of time.
Nikon MC-DC2 Remote Release Cord: $22.94. Third-party remote shutter releases are also available.
Nikon ML-L3 IR (Infrared) Wireless Remote Control: $13.99
You could also consider the use of RF (radio-frequency) remote shutter triggers such as the Phottix Cleon II or Plato.
For storage, the D90 uses SD or SDHC cards.
Refer to Rob Galbraith’s SD / SDHC card write speed tests (done on a Nikon D90) to get an idea on the relative write and read speeds of different brands of cards. At the time of writing (Oct 29, 2009), the SanDisk Extreme III SDHC cards occupy the top two spots.
To ensure smooth recording of video and high resolution images, go for Class 6 or faster cards.
