Thank you, David Chin, and all for that Flickr vs. PBase comparison. I have a Flickr Pro account but was unfamiliar with PBase until I received an email from the LinkedIn.com Nature Photography group and saw new member Steve Bailey point to his interesting African photo site on PBase: http://www.pbase.com/mashona.

Thank you Cheryl regarding the inability to use a Flickr account commercially. I was hoping to be able to sell some photos from my account. I'll have to inquire further.

Again, thanks all.

Recently, though, I'm hearing of Flickr permanently deleting user accounts without warning, if Flickr judges the member is using his/her Flickr account for commercial purposes. Not only pro photogs, but even realtors with photo albums of homes for sale.

For this reason, I am very seriously reconsidering pBase.

I'm with Henry, although I find you give one of the more thorough reviews of both I've seen. What I haven't liked about Flickr happens to be the small pictures against white and with so much around it that is distracting. Navigation is actually not intuitive for the average user too.
As with Henry, my home page - http://www.pbase.com/andrys - is using a template we have shared on the pbase forums. And you're right, you just cannot beat statcounter for info on what interests visitors or doesn't interest them, for that matter.

However, I have a Flickr account, used only for communications, but I've meant to put some favorites there. On Pbase, as a non-pro (obviously), I've been able to sell a few licenses a year, because it apparently has good google ranking, and since mine are travel pics they have sold to places (textbook publishers, magazines, and a museum) interested in specific types of photos rather than for any overarching visual delight and actively looking for them. However, eggs in one basket etc... your advice is good.

On your summary, I'd say that the ability to show, by default an 800x600 or 600x800 without any ads or other images around it and with the type of color background we ourselves either select or code is the main reason to choose pbase if you can have only one. But these days we have many options and, as you show, there's no reason to go with just one.

I do like the sibling linking within country or topic subgalleries that pbase provides too.

  Thanks for an interesting comparison.

I use both Flickr(not as pro) and Pbase. A good thing with pbase is, you can create a your own home page if you know a little HTML and CSS.
(Check mine here: www.scenicfoto.com, yes it's on Pbase).

Another thing I like about pbase is, as long as you keep your picture below 800 pixels, it automatically shows original size once you click the thumbnail. I hate Flickr when I have to click many times just in order to see a bigger/orginal sized picture
