The user guide is titled "Nikon D3000 Digital Camera User's Manual" (the 15.9 MB Acrobat document that I referred to earlier).

For copyright purposes, the printable version of the Adobe Acrobat PDF document requires you to input your camera serial number and agree to a license, while the non-printable version doesn't. You'll get the following dialog box if you try to print the password-protected, non-printable document.

The guide discusses the features of the D3000 and how to use the camera, for instance, on pages 55, 56 and 57, there's an explanation on how to use the optional Nikon ML-L3 infrared wireless remote control take a picture.

Battery options and accessories for the D3000
Nikon EN-EL9a Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery for D3000 (7.2V / 1080mAh): $37.99. It's a good idea to purchase a spare battery as a backup so that the camera doesn't run out of power during extended shooting sessions. The D3000 is also compatible with the older EN-EL9 battery, which holds slightly lower amounts of charge (7.4V / 1000mAh).

Nikon ML-L3 IR (Infrared) Wireless Remote Control: $15.27

For storage, the D3000 uses SD or SDHC cards.

Refer to Rob Galbraith's SD / SDHC card write speed tests (done on a Nikon D90) to get an idea on the relative write and read speeds of different brands of cards. At the time of writing (Oct 29, 2009), the SanDisk Extreme III SDHC cards occupy the top two spots.

In Pocket Lint's review of the D3000, Gavin Stoker raises the following points:
* Buying the D3000 with the kit 18-55mm VR lens makes the most sense since there is no built-in, sensor-based shake reduction.
* The built-in "miniature" in-camera picture editing mimic tilt-shift lens effect when applied on photos.
* Build quality is good, and the D3000 plus 18-55mm VR kit feels larger than the Olympus E-P1 and Panasonic G1 / GH1.
* AF (autofocus) lock with the 11 auto focus points is quick.
* Images are saved quickly to card.
* The combination of the D3000's sensor and kit lens produces photos which are detailed, crisp and professional-looking.

Shun Cheung takes a first look at the Nikon D3000, and concludes:

Nikon has been raising the bar on their entry-level DSLRs. While the D3000 is intended to be their most affordable model, it is using a variation of the 10MP sensor and the same AF module on the D200, which was a $1699 prosumer model that was in very high demand merely 3 years ago back in 2006. Meanwhile, the D3000 is conveniently small and light so that it is easy to carry around. For consumers who into family, travel and children sports photography, this is an excellent camera at a very reasonable price.

He's also done an excellent comparison of the D3000 vs Nikon D40 (see two side-by-side photos, here and here) and other entry-level DSLR cameras (D60 and D5000) from Nikon.
