Canon G9 User Photos

Canon G9 gallery by Russ - You'll find close to 30 pictures taken at an arts and crafts show which have been resized for web viewing. Although no full-sized photos are available, the pictures give a good indication of the great color in outdoor images you get from the G9. Russ has also shared the camera settings used. Russ also feels that the G9 has better color vs the G7.

Gifted Gourmet's Canon G9 gallery - Here's a fantastic variety of photos taken with the G9 - take your time and enjoy each and every one of them. Gifted Gourmet also made a comment that something about the G9 photos made them look snappier and punchier than from the Powershot G7 - this is good news indeed.

Official G9 images

These are found at web.canon.jp - here's the link to the first photo (which happens to be a portrait of a lady sitting next to a grand piano). Click on the thumbnail to get to the full-sized photo. There are 12 samples altogether, and the thumbnails to the rest of the images in the gallery can be found there.

Overall image quality is great at ISO 80, but you can see a bit of grain in the shadows. It looks like the noise level is similar to what you get in recently-released Powershot models.

My favorite is the parrot photo - the level of sharpness and detail is outstanding.

Canon Powershot G9 gallery at DPReview.com

A great job done by the team to make available an extensive gallery of images shot with a production G9 one day after the official announcement. There's a nice variety of photos, from indoor snapshots to city and street scenes and candids.

For those wondering how the G9 performs at higher ISO values, here's one (indoor portrait, with flash) shot at ISO 200 and another at ISO 400.

For me, the G9 does pretty admirably, given the fact that Canon has cramped so many pixels into the 1/1.7-inch sensor. Look at each pixel 100% on your screen and you might not be terribly impressed (especially if you own a digital SLR or an older model of digicam from an era when they had no more than 6 megapixels), but the extremely low levels of chroma noise and the gentle NR (noise reduction) being performed means that there is no ugly artifacting visible, and the photos will print just fine.

There are blown highlights in this street scene (shot at full telephoto, 210mm in 35mm terms), but again, the lens and sensor work together well to prevent the occurrence of PF (purple fringing).

In terms of captured detail, hair doesn't look well resolved at 210mm focal length, but foliage is surprisingly detailed and sharp in this wide-angle (35mm focal length) city scene.

Whether shot indoors, outdoors, in the shade, with or without flash, colors and exposure on the whole seem consistent, natural and pleasing - no extremes or surprises here, which is a good thing.
