Canon G7 Image Samples

• Head over to William Algood’s photo gallery where you’ll find many indoor portraits taken with the PowerShot G7’s built-in flash. Exposure is great, and image quality is very good. Click on the O link under each pic to view the full-sized original.

• Bo Lorentzen has put up a nice page on the Canon G7 where you can download unretouched samples shot at varying apertures at full wide and full telephoto.

• If you’re interested in the high-ISO performance of the G7, look through this extremely well put together list of ISO 800 and ISO1600 images.

Canon PowerShot G7 Reviews

At Bo Lorentzen’s Canon G7 page, you’ll find a scan of the Chasseur d’Images magazine’s Dec-2006 review of the PowerShot G7. If French isn’t your strong point, read this translation to English, and the conclusion.

Canon Powershot G7 vs Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2

In this indoor shot test, the G7 shot was illuminated with the Canon 220EX flash (see an image of how the G7 looks like with a Canon 430EX flash mounted on it), vs the LX2’s built-in flash. Jim posted another indoor shot illuminated with the G7’s built-in flash. It’s pretty obvious from the photos that the G7 makes it an easy task to grab great indoor shots with the default settings, whereas the Panasonic LX2 requires you to tweak flash exposure settings.

Canon Powershot G7 vs Canon PowerShot A610

Some factors to consider when deciding which PowerShot model is more suitable for action and ski photography. This image shows the highly useful and prominent grip on the A610, which makes holding the camera firmly more manageable than with the G7, which has a relatively more shallow grip. The G7 has the advantage when photographing in bright snow with its built-in, 3-stop neutral density (ND) filter (search for neutral density here for more information on the ND filter). Some suggestions are offered here on accessories that will help make the G7 easier to hold (with a Hakuba hand strap), protect the screen and also a recommendation to use a Pop-Up Shade for viewing the LCD screen under bright sunlight. An additional note highlights the high frames-per-second shot capabilities of the Canon A610 and A620.

Canon Powershot G7 vs FujiFilm Finepix F30

Lesnumeriques.com allows you to quickly compare two digital cameras according to the criteria of your choice. It would be a bit of a challenge to understand the information 100%, unless you know French, but this is an example comparing the operational speed of the G7 vs the F30 in areas such as startup times and autofocus performance. You could of course compare any other pairs of cameras this way.

Does the Canon G7 Face Detection feature work?

The specs sheet claims that the G7 is able to autofocus on up to 9 faces in a frame, but does it really work in reality? It seems to work well (even managing to AF on dogs), and here are two ways of setting the face detection feature up. Oh, and it tracks moving faces and faces on TV too.

Canon G7 vs Canon PowerShot Pro1

Richard K has written the finest review to be found on the internet, pitting the Canon G7 against the classic PowerShot Pro 1 — head over there, and scroll down a couple of pages to read the review. You’ll be rewarded at the end of the review with full-sized image samples from both the G7 and the Pro1.

Canon G7 vs Canon 400D / Rebel XTi

The G7 didn’t do too badly at all in this image test pitting it against the XTi mounted with a Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD Asp IF lens.
